Onio Punzal said Grace Guslander wanted the conch shell to blow for every car that entered the Coco Palms Resort. With that kind of practice, Onio said, you can’t help but know how to blow the shell.
He was on hand to sound the shell for the blessing by Sabra Kauka and hosted by the state Department of Transportation Deputy Director Edwin Sniffen (his wife is a Kauai girl, a graduate of Island School).
Sen. Ron Kouchi (haven’t worked with Joy for a while) is a wizard with anecdotes and had a lot of interesting tidbits at the dedication, including the story of how Sniffen became the deputy director of the DOT.
Mahalo to Cindy Wortmann’s class at Island School for the opening oli. Unfortunately, they had to catch the bus (some of them screaming as the bus passed by) so couldn’t stay for the entire protocol where Mayor Bernard Carvalho Jr. and Mary Daubert left their cars and walked to and from the event.
OK, pay attention as the DOT begins opening the new stretch of highway starting Monday afternoon, weather permitting.
