Wanted fugitive injured during attempted arrest

KAPAA – A wanted Kapaa man was injured after resisting arrest Thursday morning in Wailua.

Shortly before 9 a.m., officers responded to a report of a possible domestic altercation near the parking lot of Kintaro Japanese Restaurant. Upon arrival to the scene, officers recognized the suspect as 21-year-old Benjamin Kaili Brown, who is wanted on a $50,000 cash warrant.

Brown initially fled the scene on foot toward a residential area before returning on a bicycle while continuing to evade police. He returned to the scene a second time, when the officer attempted to arrest him. Brown resisted arrest and a struggle ensued, during which the officer deployed his electronic control device.

Brown was transported to Wilcox Hospital for medical evaluation due to injuries sustained during the incident. He will likely face additional charges upon release from the hospital.

The officer involved suffered non-life threatening injuries. He was treated at Wilcox Hospital and released.

The female involved in the initial alleged dispute did not report any injuries and was released at the scene.
