ANINI — Anini Road was closed for roughly eight hours Friday night after a Kilauea man drove a pickup truck into a utility pole.
The driver of the pickup did not report any injuries and was later arrested for operating a vehicle under the influence of an intoxicant.
According to police, David Carlson was heading south on Anini Road at approximately 7 p.m., when the Dodge truck he was driving crashed into a utility pole, severing the pole at its base.
Anini Road was completely shut down until roughly 10:30 p.m., while a utility crew worked to replace the damaged pole. Police then directed one lane of alternating traffic from 10:30 p.m. to approximately 2:30 a.m., when the roadway was completely reopened.
