KAPAA — Christmas came early for Kapaa High School when Starwood and the Westin Princeville Ocean Resort Villas arrived with a load of fitness equipment on Friday.

“This is a great addition to our physical education and athletic department,” said Greg Gonsalves, Kapaa High School athletic director. “The physical education and athletic departments share a lot of the equipment so this benefits a lot of our students.”

June Cappiello, spokeswoman, said the equipment was contributed to Kapaa High School because the Westin Princeville is completely redoing its Westin Workout Fitness Studio.

“The equipment is still in good shape, and we wanted to ensure it would continue to provide its benefits,” Cappiello said. “A lot of our associates’ children attend Kapaa High School and it made sense that the equipment be given to them.”

Valued at $28,000 by the Westin Princeville engineering department, Cappiello said the contribution included a variety of equipment, including free weights, treadmills, ellipticals and bicycles.

“It’s everything you really need for a good workout program,” Cappiello said.
