125 years of Honpa Hongwanji, Sunday

KAPAA — The Kapaa Hongwanji Mission, located across the street from the Kapaa Shopping Center, will be the site of the 125th anniversary celebration, Kauai Commemorative Service on Sunday.

Affirmation rites will open the day at 8 a.m. followed by the Commemorative Service with special guests including Bishop Eric Matsumoto, Rev. Toshiyuki Umitani, executive assistant to the Bishop, and Pieper Toyama, the state Kyodan president.

The public is welcome

Anyone interested in getting a Buddhist name should call Rev. Kazunori Takahashi, the chairman for the Kauai District commemoration, at the Lihue Hongwanji Mission at 245-6262.
