Bicyclist injured in Lihue traffic crash

LIHUE – A 12-year-old boy was injured when he was struck by a car while riding a bicycle Saturday night on Kuhio Highway in Lihue.

The incident occurred about 6:30 p.m. near the Ahukini Road intersection. The juvenile was not in a marked crosswalk when he attempted to cross the highway from the northbound to the southbound shoulder and was struck by a southbound Jeep stationwagon.

The juvenile was transported via ambulance to Wilcox Memorial Hospital, where he was treated for minor injuries.

Both southbound lanes of Kuhio Highway were closed for about 10 minutes following the crash. The inner lane was reopened 10 minutes later and the highway was completely open by 7 p.m.
