Fire damages Hanapepe home

HANAPEPE — A home was damaged in a fire Monday afternoon.

Firefighters responded to a call from Kauai Police Dispatch about 3:20 p.m. of a residential fire with smoke appearing from under the building at 3534 Hanapepe Road. The fire was quickly contained with minimal damage to the home, according to county spokeswoman Sarah Blane.

No injuries were reported, Blane said. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

The home was built in 1943 and is zoned residential. County tax records show it is owned by the Yoshimura Family Trust in Westminster, California.

Volunteers with the American Red Cross disaster response team are assisting the affected residents.
