LIHUE — Hawaii Fashion Month will highlight Kauai’s small business entrepreneurs in the textile clothing, beauty, hair, jewelry and accessories industries.
“Unlike the agriculture, high technology and visitor industries, it was important to the chamber that we connect to the larger statewide effort to support this very important sector of our economy, especially because it’s nearly a half-billion dollar plus sector in Hawaii,” said Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Randy Francisco. “The HFM Kauai 2014 event held throughout November is a timely event since it is just before the holidays and will provide both designers/artisans an opportunity to showcase and draw attention to their industry and provide residents and visitors ideas about island fashion for themselves and gift-giving.”
Hawaii Fashion Month Kauai kicks off on Nov. 6, with a Chamber Business After Hours event hosted by Kauai Museum. The event occurs simultaneously as part of the Hawaii Fashion Month launch in Honolulu from Nov. 6-9, with five Kauai designers participating in the Oahu event.
The chamber, in partnership with the County of Kauai’s Office of Economic Development, is participating in a free Small Business Fair open to the public at the Kauai War Memorial Convention Hall from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Nov. 6.
A Business Education Forum at Kauai Community College in partnership with the chamber will be held Nov. 21.
The fashion month events continue on Nov. 12, with HFM Kauai 2014 “Kukuiula” Fashion Show at Kukuiula Shopping Village. The event is free and highlights West Kauai and South Shore designers.
The HFM Kauai 2014 “Kukui” Fashion Show will be held Nov. 22 at Kukui Grove Shopping Center. The event is free and will highlight central Kauai designers.
Hawaii Fashion Month concludes with a final fashion show event to include East and North Shore Kauai designers. The HFM Kauai 2014 “KaiKini” Kauai Fashion Symposia will be held Nov. 25 at KaiKini Bikini, 6250 Olohena Road, Kapaa. The free event will be followed by a blessing and grand opening of the KaiKini Bikini Manufacturing space.
The objective of the HFM Kauai 2014 Fashion Symposia is to bring designers and artisans together to learn about Kauai’s fashion landscape industry as an important economic driver. Another goal is to connect participants with each other and establish an organization to serve as a resource for the industry including establishing a on-line directory, partnering with the Kauai Made Program.
