Taislee Simao, born premature, spent the first months of her life at the Kapiolani Medical Center for Women and Children, Hawaii’s Children’s Miracle Network hospital.
Saturday, the 4-year-old was on hand with her parents, Ben and Stephanie Simao, to help present a $12,000 check to Gregory Scott Smith, program director for the Kapiolani Children’s Miracle Network.
“We know that many families in Hawaii have benefited, as we did, with the care provided by the Kapiolani Medical Center,” said Ben Simao, an engineer at Marriott’s Kauai Lagoons — Kalanipuu. “We wanted to support them and the Children’s Miracle Network in some way.”
At the time the first tournament was held at the Kauai Lagoons, Ben was working at the Marriott’s Waiohai Beach Club where Christina Gabriel, the resort’s general manager, offered the support of the resort.
“It is great the Waiohai and Kauai Lagoons ohana can work together for this very worthy cause which benefits so many in our community,” Gabriel said.
