Gabby Saiki piloted her 1997 Honda Civic “Daddy’s Girl” to 88.94 mph to take the special Ladies Class on Saturday at the Kauai Raceway Park in Mana.
Tracie Sakamoto of the Garden Isle Racing Association, host of the drag races, said Saturday was Ladies Night with PS&D Napa Auto Parks teaming with the GIRA for the second event which will become part of the GIRA racing calendar.
As part of its contribution, PS&D offered free admission tickets at all of its Kauai outlets for ladies. GIRA, as part of the team effort, contributed a dollar from each paid entry to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation for its work in cancer.
Lauren Matsuyama roared down the quarter-mile stretch on a 13.567-second run over her 13.40 dial-in, reaching 100.98 mph on a .769 reaction time to take runner-up honors in the Ladies Class. She beat Saiki’s 14.104 ET over a 13.95 dial-in with a .134 reaction time.
Dennis Stoner drove his 2009 Toyota Tundra to a 14.442 ET over his 14.40 dial-in, reaching 89.77 mph on a .297 reaction time to claim the Street Class over Matt Torry who drove his 2006 Dodge Charger to a 14.658 ET over a 14.50 dial-in reaching 97.67 mph on a .188 reaction time.
The crown for the Junior Dragsters belonged to Kelsie Iida-Vierra who drove her machine to an 8.033 ET down the one-eighth mile stretch on a 7.90 dial-in to reach 78.40 mph on a .170 reaction time. Runner-up honors went to strong contender Ryant Sakamoto who finished with a 12.064 ET over an 11.90 dial-in reaching 51.49 mph on a .349 reaction time.
