Bryden Salvador of Kilauea and Jamie Amimoto of Lihue will be on Maui for the 2014 Hawaii State Junior Golf Association Junior Tour Series – All Ages tournament this Saturday and Sunday.
Salvador, a strong golfer for Kapaa High School during the Kauai Interscholastic Federation season, and Amimoto, a golfing leader for Kauai High School, will be playing in the Boys 15-18 Flight which tees off at the Kapalua Golf Course – Bay Course.
Salvador has been a member of the Hawaii State Junior Golf Association for seven years. He said he’s participated in six tournaments during the summer and that he’s received good experience from them.
“I’ve just been practicing, just working the things I need to improve on … my short game, my putting and chipping,” Salvador said in a phone interview.
He added he looks forward to competing against some tough golfers and also enjoying Maui. The 17-year-old will be a senior this year at Kapaa.
Amimoto, who’s been a HSJGA member for four years, also participated in several tournaments this summer including the Prince Invitational last week. From that tournament, he said, he learned he needed to focus on keeping the ball on the fairway and is looking forward to this weekend.
It will be the first time Amimoto will play the Maui course.
“It’s always a challenge playing a course that I’ve never played before,” he said. “(I look forward to) seeing my friends from around the state. After playing a lot of tournaments, you connect with a lot of other junior golfers.”
Amimoto, 17, will also be a senior this academic year.
The Kauai duo will be among the field of 14 golfers in the flight, including seven Maui boys and five from Oahu playing on a Par 72 at 6,600 yards.
