While we sometimes question how our county leaders spend money, we applaud their commitment to improving Lydgate Beach Park. Simply put, it is the crown jewel of parks here and deserves to be the focus of attention and continued upgrades.

The recent $685,000 renovation included major improvements to the large comfort stations next to the lifeguard tower and at the southern end of the beach park as well as the one located at the campgrounds.
In addition, all of the small pavilions were demolished and replaced, while upgrades were made to the ceiling, lighting, and floor in the main pavilion. The rinse showers located throughout the park were also replaced. There’s a new fish identification sign that was put up recently, courtesy of the Mokihana Club.
Further enhancements are planned for Lydgate Park, including replacing the shingles on the main pavilion and the waterlines throughout the park.
If you haven’t visited this park lately, please do. There, you’ll find swimming and snorkeling in Morgan’s Pond, a walking path perfect for outings with the kids or the dogs, a beach, a pavilion perfect for family and company gatherings, and if you feel like fishing (not in Morgan’s Pond) there’s that, too. There are two play areas for children, as well. A large grass field provides plenty of space for football, softball or flying a kite. Lydgate is an example of how a park should be developed, a spot that offers an array of activities.
Lydgate joins Poipu Beach Park as a “super park” on Kauai. It’s tucked away just off Kuhio Highway, a gem that we encourage locals and visitors to explore and spend the day. You won’t be disappointed.
