Yukio Higashi

Yukio “York” Higashi of Hanamaulu passed away at Wilcox Memorial Hospital on June 19, 2014 at the age of 87. Born on February 12, 1927 he was a retired truck driver instructor for Lihue Plantation.

Preceded in death by his parents Sakichi and Kiku Higashi; brothers, Masayuki Higashi and Harry Higashi and granddaughter Halee Rivera.

He is survived by his wife, Olinda Higashi; sons, Gordon (Danice) Higashi, Alvin (Deborah) Higashi, Dean (Melanie) Higashi; Blaine Kaneholani, Kenny Meatoga; daughters, Maile (Jonah) Cummings, Yukie (Kevin) De Silva, Anolani (Kelo Rivera) Higashi; brothers, David Higashi, Richard “Kenji” (Misa) Higashi, Sisters Peggy (Leslie) Yaka and Edith Higashi; 25 grandchildren, Bryson, Shantelle, Daryl, Danielle, Jan, Joey, Cherise, Kaplan, Alyssa, Kelii, Landon, Micah, Vaughn, Kelly, Kaleomana, Jonah, Nohelani, Sunshine, Naomi, Jacob, Alton, Joshua, Moana, Dustyn and Hulali. 21 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A celebration of life will be held on Friday, July 11, 2014 at Anahola Hawaiian Homes Beach Park. Visitation with family begins at 10 a.m. Services at 10:30 a.m. will be performed by Kahu Ipo Kahaunaele-Ferreira of Ke Akua Mana Church.

Andrew Belmonte

Andrew Yadao Belmonte of Kilauea passed away on June 1, 2014 at his home in Nice, California at the age of 60. Born on December 31, 1953 in Lihue, he was a Landscaper.

Preceded in death by his mother Esmenia Belmonte and brother Patrick Belmonte.

He is survived by his son Barrett Belmonte of Kilauea; father Isidro Belmonte Sr. of Kilauea; brothers Isidro Belmonte Jr. of Kilauea and Eric (Crystal Marie) Belmonte of Kilauea; sister Brandie (Ross) Pimental of Kapahi. Granddaughters Kyllie and Bailey Belmonte, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, July 12, 2014 at St. Sylvester’s Church in Kilauea. Visitation held at 9:00 am and services to commence at 10:00 am.

Severino Butay Sr.

Severino Llapitan Butay Sr. of Brydeswood, Kalaheo, passed away on June 19, 2014 at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at age 55. Born on April 25, 1959 in Cagayan, Philippines, he was a Parks & Recreation Caretaker with the County of Kauai.

Preceded in death by his father, Cayetano Butay Sr., brother, Alfredo Butay, father and mother-in-law, Mr & Mrs Inonsencio Lagoc.

He is survived by his wife, Magdalena Butay, sons, Richard (Puna) Butay of Hanama’ulu and Severino (Jaimie Pascua) Butay Jr. of Brydeswood, Kalaheo, daughter Cathy Butay of Brydeswood, Kalaheo, his mother, Lorenza Butay, brothers, Percival Butay of Oregon and Cayetano (Shamira Nitsche) Butay Jr. of Kekaha, sisters, Evangeline (Vereno Geronimo) Butay of Kaumakani and Felina Butay of Lihue, brothers-in-law, Arthur (Flora) Lagoc and Mario (Jovita) Lagoc, both of Kaumakani, sisters-in-law, Angielita (Julio) Ganotisi of Eleele and Christine (Junior) Ramos of Kaumakani, and seven grandchildren, Keyrsten, Kaya, Jayvier, Rhyzen, Sylas, Rhextyn, and Rhicky.

Friends may visit with the family on Saturday, July 12, 2014, 7:30 to 9:30 am, at St. Theresa’s Church. Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 am, burial at Kekaha Public Cemetery. Casual attire is suggested and flowers are welcome. Reception to follow at the Hanapepe Stadium.

Beatrice Costa

Beatrice A. Costa of Kalaheo , Kauai, Hawaii passed away on July 5, 2014 at Garden Isle Health Care at the age of 91. Born on July 24, 1922 in Kalaheo. She was a manager of Hale O Health.

Preceded in death by her parents, Manuel & Minnie Andrade; husband, Joseph G .Costa.

She is survived by: daughters, Carol (James) Copelan, Oahu, Margaret (Bill) Castro, Oahu, Gwen (Steve) Williford, California; sons, Joseph Costa, Kalaheo, Robert (Napua) Costa, Lihue; sister, Margaret Medeiros, Lihue, 11 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild.

Friends may visit with the family on Monday July 14, 2014 at Holy Cross Catholic Church, Kalaheo. Visitation 9:00 A.M. Mass to be celebrated 10:00 A.M. Burial to follow at Hanapepe Veterans Cemetery.

Kenneth Eckley

Kenneth Claire Eckley of Wailua Homesteads passed away in Garden Isle Health Care on July 2, 2014, at the age of 92. He was born in Iowa on March 20, 1922; a retired Veteran of the United States Air Force and United Airlines.

He is survived by his wife, Lois Eckley; son, Thomas (Beverly) Eckley; daughters, Shel (Ron) Rheinor, Lisa (Ed) Lowell, Verna (Danny) Harrison; 8 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren; sister, Bonnie (Bill) Crosman; numerous nieces and nephews.

No services planned.

Kauai Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home assisted the Eckley family with arrangements.

Elsie Ferreira

Elsie P. Ferreira of Honolulu, Hawaii, passed away on June 30, 2014 in Waianae, Hawaii at the age of 86. She was a homemaker.

Preceded in death by her parents: Joseph Picanso and Mabel Silva; husband Edmund Silva Ferreira, Sr., and brothers, Patrick Picanso and Joseph Picanso.

She is survived by her children, Ann Marie (Alika) Perkins, Edmund Silva (Faye) Ferreira, Jr., John Silva (Candace) Ferreira, Herman Silva (Michael) Ferreira, Barbara Jean (James) Cook, Michael Silva (Nani) Ferreira, Bernadette Louise (Chris) Nelson; sister, Margaret Borges of Tiburon, CA. 21 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren, 19 great-great grandchildren.

Friends may visit with the family on Friday, July 18th at the Sacred Heart’s Church Old Government Road, Waianae, Hawaii from8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. visitation, 9:30 to 10 a.m. program, 10:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. mass. Burial to follow 12:30 p.m. at Mililani Memorial Park at Ka Uka Blvd.
