WAILUA — In with the new.
The blessing of a new Fish Identification Sign Monday near the swimming area at Lydgate Park marked the completion of a project by the Mokihana Club.
Club President Winnie Lu and other club members joined the Rev. Nani Hill who presided over the blessing. The first fish identification sign was placed at Lydgate Park in 1999 and was renovated in 2008. In need of yet another facelift, a new sign was commissioned as part of the current Lydgate Park renovation project. Lu presented the project idea to the Mokihana Board, which voted to allocate the funds necessary to replace the sign.
“Renovating the fish sign gives me a glimpse of the long history of service the Mokihana Club had been involved with on the island,” Lu said. “After all, this is the oldest women’s club in the state, and the oldest women’s service club in Lihue.”
