The head coach position opened after its current coach expressed an interest in concentrating on just one sport instead of trying to juggle coaching responsibilities between multiple areas.
Kobayashi said Coach Basilio “Bunga” Fuertes has been a longtime coach for the Waimea program before its current coaching staff, devoting more than 40 years to coaching Menehune long distance runners in both the cross country and track and field arenas.
