Diamondbacks best Giants for Bronco title

LIHUE — The top-seeded Lihue Diamondbacks slew the Kalawai Giants 11-1 to claim the Kauai Bronco title Saturday at the Lihue County Park grandstand main diamond.

Diamondback left-handed pitcher Robin Lumabao made short work of the Giants, going five of the six innings on the mound.

During his tenure, Lumabao faced 16 Giants, striking out 11 while allowing just one hit, an RBI single by Chace Garcia in the fourth inning. He allowed no walks.

In the batter’s box, Lumabao finished with two hits in three appearances and had two RBIs.

Ricky Rego added to the fireworks with a two-run homer in the opening frame when the Diamondbacks came up with two runs on two hits. Rego finished with an RBI single in the sixth inning.

The Kalawai Giants, seeded No. 3 in the three-team playoff, battled from the onset and got past the No. 2 seed Dodgers twice to face the Diamondbacks in the title game. Players are ages 11-13 years old.
