Bonjolea II won the top spot with some challenges, but the No. 2 spot was the highlight of the Nawiliwili Yacht Club Rum Race Series final Thursday.
Playing out before about 20 spectators at the mole, Fast Company eventually bested OZone, both Olson 30s, by 38 seconds, said Ken Martinez, rear commodore of the NYC.
Bonjolea II, a Sydney 36, controlled the field over the 4.51-mile course covering three legs in 7-to 10-knot winds out of the east to north. She crossed first to finish on an elapsed sail of 57 minutes, three seconds and corrected to 1:00:47 PHRF for top honors in both classes.
Fast Company chased the Sydney 36, crossing on a 1:01:06 elapsed sail and corrected to 1:01:12 PHRF, 38 seconds faster than OZone who sounded the finish horn on a 1:01:44 elapsed sail and corrected to 1:01:50 PHRF for third place.
Other boats finishing included Papaau, and Express 27, crossing on a 1:05:19 elapsed sail, correcting to 1:02:32 PHRF for fourth place.
Martinez said since this was the final race of the Rum Race Series. Overall results will be tabulated to determine the overall series standing.
