Two hikers injured Wednesday

Two hikers were injured in separate incidents on Wednesday.

According to County Spokesperson Sarah Blane, the Hanalei Fire station responded to the first call after being contacted by a hiker at the Kee Beach area at around 2:15 p.m.

The Kauai Fire Department’s Rescue 3 team responded to the scene aboard the Air 1 helicopter. They located the 61-year-old female victim with an ankle injury.

The victim, from Bakersfield, Calf., was airlifted to Princeville Airport and transferred over to awaiting medics.

While en route to the first distress call, Rescue 3 was notified from a private helicopter company that two hikers were waving their arms as if in distress at Hanakoa Valley.

Air 1 responded to Hanakoa Valley and located an 18 year-old female from Vancouver, Canada and a companion. The victim reported that she suffered a back injury after a fall.

The victims in both cases were transported to Wilcox Memorial Hospital.
