LIHUE — A Waimea High School sweep of its doubleheader Saturday against Kauai clinched the first round title for the Menehune at Isenberg Park.
Jumping out to an early five-run lead, Waimea went on to lock up a 20-5 win on 11 hits before ending the nightcap with a 19-1 victory.
Sienna Santiago had the hot bat for Waimea in Game 1, ending with a triple and a single with four RBIs.
Bailey San Agustine-Nordmeier, the Menehune first baseman, finished with a single but had five RBI.
The Red Raiders pushed nine hits for its five runs in Game 1, the bats were led by Tayzia Okami who had a double with two RBI. Kiana Pagador was 2-for-2 with singles and an RBI. Aleigha “Red” Scovel scored one and had a single, along with Kahela Nishikawa-Chandler, Kailee Nii, Chase Tokita and Railee Layosa.
Kauai finished with five hits for its single run in the second game, the Red Raider bats were led by Cailey Caires, who drove in Chase Tokita on a fielder’s choice in the fourth inning. Caires had a single along with Jennifer Doiron, Tokita, Tammie Yoshimori and Aleigha “Red” Scoval.
San Agustine-Nordmeier picked up top hitting honors for Waimea in the second game, knocking a three-run homer to right-center field and adding two more RBI with a single in the third inning.
Menehune third base Alyssa Miyamoto followed in the order with a solo homer to center field.
With the Kauai Interscholastic Federation Round 1 title settled, the girls get a break until April 9 when Waimea hosts Kapaa in a single game starting at 5:30 p.m.
