Gerald ‘Pete’ Knight
Gerald F. Knight “Pete” passed away on January 11, 2014 in Spokane, Washington. Born in Paragould, Arkansas on October 31, 1934, he was a Navy Veteran of 27 years serving in Korea and the Vietnam War.
Preceded in death by his son lil Pete, Gerald F. Knight Jr.
He is survived by his wife, Aldrene Napua Kanoho Knight of Lihue, Kauai and five children; Terry (David) Gallagher of Lincoln City, Oregon, Kimberlie (Tom) Isola of Tampa, Florida, Tina (Ron) Schumacher of Granger, Washington, Gary Knight of Everett, Washington, Kanoelani Knight of Spokane, WA; 5 grandchildren, Michael Longoria of Mukilteo, WA, Scott and Jason Soltani of Nashville, Tenn, Donnie Schooley of Oregon and Kristen Knight of Holcomb, Wisconsin. Numerous families and friends.
A Celebration of Pete’s Life with family and friends will be held on on February 15th, Saturday, at the Hanapepe Veterans Cemetery, Service at 11:00 AM; Burial to follow. Rolland Peahu Sr.
Rolland Bernard Keonaona Peahu Sr. of Lihue passed away at home on January 30, 2014, at the age of 81. He was born in Nawiliwili, Kauai on August 30, 1932, and retired from Hawaiian Airlines and Kauai Surf.
Preceded in death by his beloved wife, Evelyn; first grandson, Jimmy Leake Jr.; one brother and three sisters.
He is survived by daughter, Rowena (James) Leake of Lihue; son, Rolland (fiancé, Susan Kashiwabara) Peahu of Lihue; 9 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren; sisters, Lani Schumacher, Laola Rapoza, both of Lihue; numerous nieces and nephews.
A celebration of his life will be held on Thursday, February 13, 2014, at Immaculate Conception Church with viewing from 8:00 a.m. and Mass celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Cremation to follow.
Inurnment of Evelyn and Rolland Peahu Sr. will be held on Thursday, February 20, 2014 at Hanapepe Veterans Cemetery with Military Honors at 11:00 a.m.

Naumu Spencer
Naumu Thomas Kekoa Spencer of Lihue, Kauai, passed away on January 27, 2014 at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at the age of 23. Born on October 27, 1990 at Wilcox Memorial Hospital. He was a Construction Worker.
Preceded in death by his Grandmother Lana Gonsalves and his Grandfather Earl Spencer, Sr.
He is survived by his son, Titus Naumu Oia Io Koa O Akua Santiago Spencer; Father: Earl (Harilynn) Spencer, Jr.; Mother: Staci Gonsalves; 10) Sisters: Keikilani (Micah) Spencer; Jennie-Lynn (Tai-Tano) Kaaumoana; Nina (Keawa) Kaaumoana; Franki (Noah) Lopez; Tiffany Kaaumoana Spencer; Anuhea Kaaumoana Spencer; Kailana Lopez; Kyla Lopez; Kayla Gushiken; Zoelynn Gonsalves. 3) Brothers: Thomas (Patsy) Spencer; Kolo Kaaumoana; Elijah Kaaumoana Spencer. Grandfather: Thomas (Evelyne) Gonsalves, Sr.; Grandmother: Annalene Spencer; Numerous, Aunties, Uncles, & Cousins.
Friends may visit with the family on Sat urday February 15, 2014 at Borthwick Kauai Mortuary Chapel in Koloa from 9: 00 am to 10:45 am where services will be celebrated at 11:00 am. Burial to follow at the Hanalei Community Cemetery.

Betty Fahselt
Betty Ancheta Fahselt of Kalaheo passed away at Wilcox Memorial Hospital on February 2, 2014, at the age of 51. She was born in Lihue, Kauai on January 3, 1963. She was a Dietitian at Wilcox Memorial Hospital.
She is survived by her parents Juan “Jackie” and Rehina Ancheta of Lihue; two daughters, Amanda (Chad) Fahselt of Florida and Salena (Vernon) Fahselt of Eleele; one son, Nelson Nitta Jr. of Kalaheo; her companion, Nelson Nitta Sr. of Kalaheo; two grandsons, Isaiah Dela Cruz and Caleb Canaynay; two brothers, Clayton (Donna) Ancheta and Gabriel Ancheta of Lihue; one sister, Teresa (Ralph) Ancheta-Worrell of Anahola; nephew, Bryson (Ariel) Worrell and niece, Nalani (Daniel) Worrell-Pa. Numerous aunties, uncles and cousins.
A celebration of her life will be held on Monday, February 17, 2014, at the Immaculate Conception Church with viewing from 8:00 a.m. and Mass celebrated at 10:00 a.m.

Luis Quel
Luis Serano Quel of Hanamaulu passed away at home on February 3, 2014, at the age of 93. He was born in San Juan, Ilocos Sur, Philippines on October 11, 1920 and retired from Harry’s Appliances and Sears Roebuck & Co as a salesman and from Kauai Surf as a chef.
Preceded in death by his wife, Felicidad Quel; son Henry Quel; great-granddaughter, Anjannette Duyanen; great-grandson, Justice Quel; brother, Alvaro Quel; sister, Victoria Quel Aquino and Cerenia Quel Racca.
He is survived by one son, Pacifico “Pat” (Clementine) Quel of Hanamaulu; daughters, Elsie Ollado of Sacramento and Norma Vida of Los Angeles; 11 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, 7 great-great grandchildren; sister, Adelina Quel Villamar of the Philippines; numerous nieces and nephews.

Beverly Valpoon
Beverly Ann Valpoon of Anahola passed away on February 4, 2014 at Samuel Mahelona Memorial Hospital at the age of 68. Born on November 29, 1945 in Lihue, Hawaii, she was a housewife.
She is survived by her husband Amil R. Valpoon Jr.; son Ekolu (Nani) Valpoon of Hanalei; brothers, John (Flora) Ornellas of Anahola, Raymond (Valerie) Ornellas of Wailua, Michael (Nora) Ornellas of Kapaa, Stanley (Carolyn) Ornellas of Kapaa, Kimo (Bernie) Ornellas of Kilauea, and Keoki Ornellas; sisters, Marleen (Mathew) Kaluahine of Anahola, Madeline Yokoyama of Las Vegas, and Evelyn (Lincoln) Takenaka of Wailua; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Friends may visit with the family on Saturday, February 15, 2014 from 9 am to 11 am at the Ko’olau Huiia Church in Anahola. Service begins at 11:00 am. Casual attire suggested.

Pansy Miyao
Pansy Miyao of Lawai passed away on February 6, 2014 at Hale Kupuna at the age of 94. Born on December 10, 1919 in Moloa’a, Kauai, she was a seamstress at Dan’s Upholstery.
Preceded in death by her husband, Nichi Miyao; son, Warren Miyao; brother, Tadashi Inomoto; and sister, Hatsuyo Sasaki.
She is survived by her sons, Earl Miyao of Lawai and Winston (Marian) Ogata of Lihue; daughter, Helene Tada of Lihue; granddaughter, Melanie (Tyrus) Matsumoto; one great-grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends may visit with the family on Saturday, February 15, 2014, 1:00 pm at the Garden Island Mortuary Chapel in Lawai. Service begins at 2:00 pm. Interment at Kauai Veterans Cemetery. The family suggests casual attire and requests that flowers be omitted.

Samuel K. Kaleiohi
Samuel K. “Buff” Kaleiohi died on February 2, 2014, at Samuel Mahelona Memorial Hospital at the age of 85. Born on August 3, 1928 in Honolulu, he was a retired security guard, bus driver, and County of Kauai Parks employee. He was also a veteran of the U.S. Army.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ephraim and Evangeline Kaleiohi; sisters, Winifred Cummings and Evelyn Reis; brothers, Ephraim and Phillip Kaleiohi; sisters-in-law, Roberta, Laurie, and Elaine Kaleiohi; brothers-in-law, Benjamin Cummings and Robert Goias; father-in-law, Lewis South; and stepfather-in-law, Walter Hanson.
He is survived by his wife of forty years, Lois Kaleiohi; daughter, Angeline Kaleiohi; goddaughter, Nalani Brun; mother-in-law, Marjorie Hanson of California; sisters, Evangeline Evans, Phylis Goias, and Daisy Tailfeathers; brothers, Edward (Amanda) Kaleiohi, Abraham (Yolanda) Kaleiohi, Joseph (Marlene) Kaleiohi, Robert Kaleiohi of O’ahu, and Theodore Kaleiohi of California; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 22, at Kapaa United Church of Christ at 1315 Ulu Street, Kapaa with visitation from 9 a.m. and services beginning at 10 a.m. Family suggests casual attire and request that flowers be omitted.

Winnie McGraw
Winnie Jensey McGraw of Kapaa, HI died on February 5, 2014 at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at the age of 64. Born on July 12 1939, she was a retired Counselor with The Texas Department of Social Services.
She is survived by her brother, Dr. James C. McGraw of Bellevue, WA, and nephews, Douglas S. McGraw of Ketchikan, AK and Jeffrey A. McGraw of Redmond, WA.
Predeceased by her parents Dr. John C. McGraw and Winnie R. McGraw of Abilene, TX, and son John G. McGraw of Waco, TX.
She grew up on Molokai, attended the University of Texas (BA) ’64 and St. Mary’s University (MA) ’68. Served 2 years in Domestic Peace Corps at The Sioux Indian Reservation at Wounded Knee, then a counselor for the State of Texas in Houston, TX, retiring to Kaua’i.

Teruo Oshiro
Teruo Oshiro died on February 3, 2014, at Kauai Veterans Memorial Hospital at the age of 86. Born on February 8, 1927 in Lawai, he retired from the Air National Guard.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Gesuke & Ushi Oshiro; and sisters Sue Turek, Haruno Clayton, and Mitsue Oshiro.
He is survived by his wife, Florence Tomita; daughters, Nancy (Jerry) Berson of Baltimore Maryland, Kerry (Dane) Han of Maui, and Lisa (Brandon Vallejos) Tomita of Kauai; brothers, Shige Oshiro of Kekaha, Yoshi Oshiro of Pearl City, Honolulu, and Rodney (Yvonne) Oshiro of Hilo; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and close family friends, Malama Ohana & Nakaahiki Ohana.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, February 18th, 12:00 noon, at the Garden Island Mortuary Chapel in Lawai, with visitation at 11:30 a.m. Family suggests aloha attire.
