KAPAA — The Rev. Robert L. Fitzpatrick, Fifth Bishop of Hawaii, visited All Saints’ Preschool during his weeklong stay on Kauai for meetings and visitations to the Kauai’s five Episcopal congregations.
The bishop regularly visits the Episcopal churches on the island, but this was Bishop Fitzpatrick’s first opportunity to visit All Saints’ Preschool since being elected Bishop in 2006.
The bishop joined the preschool for “Morning Circle” to sing songs about whales, bees, and butterflies. Then the bishop visited each of the classrooms to share the story of Queen Emma.
The students enjoyed a moment of laughter when the bishop, who often finds himself leading formal church services and meetings, confessed that sometimes young people call him “Bishop Bobby.”
After hearing his confession, students at All Saints’ were not shy throughout the morning to call the bishop by his newly discovered nickname.
All Saints’ Episcopal Church was founded in 1925 as the first Episcopal Church on Kauai.
“It was such a blessing to have the bishop at All Saints’ Preschool today,” according to a press release. “The preschool has been so instrumental in Kapaa’s early childhood education community since 1966 and the bishop’s visit reaffirms the importance of All Saints’ education mission and ministry.”
