LIHUE — A Kapaa woman has been arrested in the stabbing of a 33-year-old man who is listed in serious condition.
The stabbing allegedly occurred Wednesday afternoon at St. Catherine’s cemetery in Kapaa, according to a county news release. The victim was transported by friends to Wilcox Memorial Hospital.
Kauai police officers were called to the Wilcox Emergency Room around 5 p.m. The victim identified the suspect and reported the incident occurred shortly after 2 p.m.
Police located Sherryl Medina Llego, 31, at her Kapaa home on Wednesday evening and arrested her on one count of first-degree assault in connection with the stabbing.
The victim suffered internal injuries and underwent surgery.
He remains at Wilcox and is listed in serious condition, according to the county release.
According to county spokeswoman Sarah Blane, it is unknown what the parties were doing at the graveyard and how the incident unfolded. The case remains under investigation.
Llego is being held at Police Cellblock in lieu of $20,000 bail.
Medina Llego’s prior criminal history includes a July 25, 2010 arrest for operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of an intoxicant, and having an open liquor container while operating a motor vehicle. She was also one of three co-defendant’s in a 2001 case with charges of third-degree promotion of a dangerous drug and unlawful use of drug paraphernalia.
