KAPAA — Space is still available for some of the divisions in the 8th annual Fun In Fellowship Dodgeball Tournament.
Sybil Nishioka, chair of the tournament, said the masters division, both kane and coed, are filled up.
“We have room for keiki in the 8 and under, and the 10 and under,” Nishioka said while helping officiate the keiki division practice Tuesday at All Saints Gym in Kapaa. “We also have room for the youth division in the 13 and under division. There is also a few more spots available in the youth 17 and under group.”
The 8th Annual FIF Dodgeball Tournament will be contested July 26 and 27 at All Saints Gym in Kapaa, but dodgeball activity already resonates in the building as practice started July 1 under high output flourescent lamps, which were made possible through an Antone and Edene Vidinha grant.
Registration forms are available at All Saints Gym near the Hale Lani book store. People are also able to get a form by emailing halelani@hawaiiantel.net or calling 651-7773.
A practice schedule is posted on the gym so groups know when they are able to get in on the open practice.
Space is rapidly filling up so groups are encouraged to register early, Nishioka said. Additionally, there are a limited supply of balls available for purchase, the schedule notes.
“I can see where this is a lot of fun,” a parent said while watching his son work through the keiki division practice Tuesday. “I used to play dodgeball as a youngster, and it was a lot of fun, then with the red rubber balls that hurt when you got hit. Now, the balls are smaller and look like they don’t hurt much when you get hit. They also make a nice sound.”
The 8th Annual FIF Dodgeball Tournament starts at 3 p.m. July 26 with the keiki division hitting the floor until 4 p.m.
The youth division is on the floor from 4 to 5:30 p.m. followed by the masters divisions starting from 5:30 to 7 p.m.
The championship rounds start at 8:30 to 11 a.m., July 27 with the keiki division followed by the youth division from 11:30 a.m. until 3 p.m. The masters division closes the tournament from 3:30 to 7 p.m.
