LIHUE — Lambda Aloha will celebrate its emerald anniversary this weekend during Kauai Pride 2013.
Co-sponsored by Lambda Aloha and Parents, Families & Friends of Lesbians and Gays, 20 Years Over the Rainbow will run Friday through Sunday at Courtyard Kauai at Coconut Beach in Kapaa.
“The Wizard of Oz” takes over as the theme of the three-day event.
Festivities kick off Friday with the Pride and Justice in the Workplace mini-conference from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Registration opens at 8:30 a.m. and a $20 suggested donation will help cover coffee, pastries and lunch costs.
For more information about the workshop visit www.kauaipride.eventbrite.com.
Friday evening will include a mixer beginning at 6 p.m., followed by a screening of “The Wizard of Oz” at dusk by the pool.
A cocktail hour will begin at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, followed by the Dropped in Oz Drag and Dance Party at 7:30.
“We had everyone go on Facebook and SurveyMonkey and request the songs they’d like to hear,” said Mark Stein, president of the Lambda Aloha board of directors.
Tickets for the Drag and Dance Party cost $20 in advance, $25 at the door and are available at lambdaaloha.com.
On Sunday, Lamda Aloha’s 20th annual Kauai Pride Potluck Picnic will run from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The family-friendly event will include volleyball, games and activities.
The event will also include a fundraiser and silent auction, with proceeds supporting the LGBT community on Kauai, according to Stein.
“It’s great to get everybody together,” he said.
