LIHU‘E — Nothing could deter a large field of Princeville ladies as they faced blustery winds and soggy course conditions for their three-day Club Championship, which began on March 19 and finished on March 26, at the Makai Course in Princeville.
“We were fortunate that we had little or no rain over the three-day event,” said Gayle Naylor, tournament chairwoman.
However, wet course conditions caused the Makai Course to call for cart path only for the last day of play. Many of the players felt and struggled with the challenging conditions but for Joan Dickerson, who lead after the first, second and third rounds, it did not seem to matter.
Third place winner Gloria Hill was asked how she felt about her game and said, “Well, it certainly could have been better.”
While first place winner Joan Dickerson was unavailable at press time for comment, others who played with her said that she played at the top of her game and remained focused throughout the three-day event.
“Joan was great competition for me,” Deb Smith said. “I simply could not catch her.”
The Princeville Ladies Golf is accepting new members. Regular play is weekly on Tuesdays at the Makai Course in Princeville with one game a month at the Prince Course in Princeville. That round is followed by a monthly lunch and meeting. Other events enjoyed by the ladies club are a summer family picnic and an all lady Christmas luncheon. The President’s Cup Championship is held in November of each year. Anyone on Kaua‘i is invited to join the Princeville Ladies Golf Club.
“We have a wonderful group of ladies,” said President Sue Doyle. “Some are more serious than others but everyone has a wonderful time.”
Golfers of all abilities are welcome and should call Doyle at 827-8254 for more information.
