LIHU‘E — County officials discussed roads, bridges, automobiles and wastewater during the second day of the Kaua‘i County Council’s review of Mayor Bernard Carvalho Jr.’s proposed budget for Fiscal Year 2014, which starts July 1.
The Department of Public Works presented Monday its $10.88 million operational budget for next fiscal year, a 7 percent increase over the actual expenditures of FY 2012, which ended June 30, 2012.
Actual expenditures for FY 2013 won’t be released until December, when the Comprehensive Annual Financial Report is delivered to the council.
County Engineer Larry Dill led the presentation of the department’s administrative goals, objectives, achievements, challenges and improvements.
Five of the six department divisions — engineering, building, wastewater, automotive and roads — gave the council a road map of what, and how, they intend to spend during next fiscal year.
Today, the department’s Solid Waste Division picks up where Monday left off. The meeting begins at 9 a.m. at the Historic County Building.

The council will be reviewing Carvalho’s budget until April 16. Carvalho will then submit a supplemental budget in May, which the council will again scrutinize, this time for final approval.
