KEKAHA — Seventh grade students from St. Theresa’s Catholic School in Kekaha have started an ongoing field survey exercise with geologist Chuck Blay. The students of Archie Achuara Jr.’s Science and Ecology class are mapping the beach across from St. Theresa’s School and at Kekaha’s McArthur Beach Park.
Students learn critical scientific mapping, reporting, observing and testing through the surveying process. From this exercise, Blay, Achuara and the students will evaluate the changing sand and shoreline conditions.
Students at St. Theresa School are learning science through a project-based curriculum that allows them to use the skills learned in science in a meaningful way to touch upon specific issues in the community.
