LIHU‘E — Registration for the spring session of the Mokihana Aquatics Learn to Swim classes are currently being accepted.
Mokihana Aquatics coach Orlando “O” Anaya said the spring session will be offered to beginners; advanced beginners; beginners and advanced beginners ocean safety from March 18 through 23, and from March 25 through 30, with graduation being celebrated on March 30 at the Kaua‘i High School pool, according to the Mokihana Aquatics website.
Beginners meet Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 3 to 4 p.m. and Saturdays from 11 a.m. to noon.
Advanced beginners meet Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 4 to 5 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 to 11 a.m.
Beginners and advanced beginners ocean safety classes are from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m.
Registration is $125 for 12 one-hour sessions and students must be 5 years or older. There is a discount for immediate family members.
A swimming program for Mini Infant and Preschool Aquatic Program will also be offered on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays on March 18, 19, 21, 22 and 23.
Mokihana Aquatics offers Learn to Swim classes as a way of giving back to the community, states its website. Mokihana Aquatics believes every person who lives on Kaua‘i should be able to swim.
The Learn to Swim program offers five levels of swimming including beginners, advanced beginners, intermediate, swimmer and advanced swimmer.
To advance beyond advanced beginners, a child must learn the four basic strokes and successfully complete a five-minute float. To advance beyond intermediate, a child must master all four basic strokes and successfully complete a 30-minute float.
In addition to teaching children swimming, an integral component of the classes is ocean awareness and water safety skills.
