• Rudy Alao

Rudy R. Alao of Kalaheo, Kauai passed away peacefully at home on February 12, 2013 at the age of 59.  He was born on July 12, 1953 in Lihue, Kauai.  He was a retired scale attendant with the County of Kauai and an Air Force Veteran.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence Zoilo Alao, and Rosella Kuarom Alao; and sister, Peggy Alao Basuel.

He is survived by his wife, Marilyn Silva Alao of Kalaheo; sons, Jensen and Gerald Alao, both of Kalaheo; brothers, Dennis Alao, Larry (Penny) Alao, Eric (Jeri) Alao, Quintin (Nicole) Alao, Gaivin (Gemma) Alao, and Vince (Essie) Alao; sisters, Lydia (John) Schornach, Rena (Blu) Ulanday, Janise (Kevin) Gusman, Norma Alao, and Zelda (Nolan) Alvarado; father and mother-in-law, Charles “Joe” Silva and Lillian Muraoka Silva; brother-in-law, Charlie (Della) Silva, sisters-in-law, Carolyn (Ronnie) Dotario, Theresa (George) Castillo, Bonnie (Mala) Lanning, and Lynn (Teddy) Perreira; and extended family.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 2, 2013 at Holy Cross Church in Kalaheo.  Visitation will start at 9:00 am with mass to be celebrated at 10:00 am.  Burial will follow at the Kauai Veteran’s Cemetery in Hanapepe.

The family suggests casual or aloha attire.  Donation may be made in lieu of flowers to Kauai Hospice.

Julia Nabeshima

Julia Nabeshima of Kaumakani, Kauai, passed away on February 10, 2013 at home at the age of 77. Born on January 25, 1936 in Makaweli, Kauai, she was a Nurse with Kauai Veteran’s Memorial Hospital.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Isidro and Carmenlina Buduan; brother, Charles; sister, PaulineBonwell; and grandparent, Leon Asignar.

She is survived by her husband, Genzo Nabeshima; sons, Philip Nabeshima of Hanapepe, Raynard (Dawn) Nabeshima of Oahu, and Neil (Marlene) Nabeshima Sr. of Kaumakani; daughter, Danette (Clinton) Fujii of Lihue; brothers, Stanley (Bob) Buduan, and Roy (Loyd) Buduan, both of Hanapepe Heights, Dennis (Ofelia)Buduan of Kaumakani, Leon (Lynette) Buduan and Louie (Chang-e) Buduan, both of Oregon; sisters, Gail (Gil) Agular of  San Diego, and Charmane (Henry) Chu of Maui; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; an uncle; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Memorial services will be held on Saturday, March 2, 2013 at Garden Island Mortuary Chapel in Lawai, with visitation from 9am to 11am, and service at 11am..

Haruko Shimatsu

Haruko Seida Shimatsu of Kekaha, Kauai, passed away on February 20, 2013 at Kauai Care Center at the age of 94. Born on January 2, 1919 in Makaweli, Kauai, she was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Tatsunosuke & Kiyo Seida, husband, Yoshinari Shimatsu; sons, Donald and Larry Shimatsu; and daughter-in-law, Maryann Shimatsu.

She is survived by her son, Kelly (Stella) Shimatsu of Kalaheo; daughter, Kathleen (Harris) Okamoto of California; one granddaughter, Michelle (John) Taguchi of California; four grandsons: Michael (Crystal) Shimatsu of Waimea, Marc (Ann) Shimatsu of Kaneohe, Scott (Myriah) Shimatsu of Colorado, Ryan (Alice) Okamoto of California; and eight great-grandchildren, Melissa Taguchi, Ellie, Riley & Reese Shimatsu, Kylie & Jason Okamoto, Dayton Shimatsu, and Michael Shimatsu, Jr.

Private services will be held at a later date.
