KAPA‘A — Scotty’s Beachside BBQ restaurant will be closing its doors for daily business on Tuesday.
While the business will cease day-to-day operations after Monday, owner Scotty Phelps said his staff will continue hosting special events and running catering operations from the same building located at 4-1546 Kuhio Highway in Kapa‘a.
Phelps said he is looking forward to catering full time.
“Catering kind of tripled over the past year,” said Phelps, “But this will make my life easier.
Scotty and the Beachside BBQ crew wish to thank all of their customers, both locals and visitors, that supported them over the years.
The 3,000-square-foot building and a surrounding 9,000-square-foot lot is up for sale, but local publisher and author Andrew Doughty said last October he would also consider leasing it to another restaurant.
“Scotty’s will go on,” Doughty said at the time, adding that the oceanfront property is “better suited for a different type of restaurant.”
Phelps said there are still people interested in the property, but there has been no movement and it remains on the market.
Scotty’s BBQ will now be focusing on its catering and banquet services, including catering breakfasts, lunches and dinners at the location in Kapa‘a, while specializing in weddings, rehearsal dinners and birthday celebrations.
Beginning mid-March, Scotty’s will also be available for room rental to civic and business groups and/or churches.
“We’re looking forward to a new chapter,” Phelps said.
