Larry Richardson was sworn in as the Flotilla Commander for the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary during the traditional Change of Watch ceremony at the U.S. Coast Guard Nawiliwili Mooring.
Richardson, who also heads up the Kaua‘i Sea Scouts program, replaces outgoing Flotilla Commander Annie Leighton.
During the ceremony attended by Coast Guard Sector Commander J. Nunan, the Coast Guard Station Kaua‘i Officer-in-Charge Seth Carter, and the Kaua‘i Sea Scouts, saw Glenn Molander sworn in as the Vice Flotilla Commander, replacing Ellis Brooks.
“The Coast Guard Auxiliary’s goals for 2013 are to increase operational readiness with regular safety patrols and to meet the increased need for public education in light of Hawai‘i’s new mandatory boater education laws,” Richardson said in an email. “We will also be conducting many joint operations with the active duty Coast Guard and the Kaua‘i Sea Scouts.”
Richardson said a lot of the operations will start almost immediately.
“We got to see our Skipper get sworn in,” said Elijah Martiney, a Kaua‘i Sea Scout in attendance at the Change of Watch ceremony. “Usually, it’s the other way around.”
