LIHU‘E — There are plenty of goings-on for Kaua‘i Community College during the month of December, beginning with the KCC Vocal Ensemble’s Christmas concert.
“Bring in Christmas Day” begins at 4 p.m. Sunday at St. Michael and All Angels Church, located next to the Lihu‘e Public Library on Hardy Street in Lihu‘e.
“We began working on this in August and this is a culmination of our labors,” said KCC Associate Professor of Music Greg Shepherd. “I always tell the students … think of it like you’ve been preparing a big Christmas dinner for people, and now they are all going to come and partake.”
Shepherd, who directs the show, said the audience can expect “upbeat Christmas songs and also some quieter numbers.”
The event will feature performances by Linda Spevacek, Carl Strommen, William Boyce, Alaw Werin, Nicole Morris, Eddie Pola, Glen Ballard, Justin Sumida, John K. Almeida, Sharnelle Renti Cruz, Richard Kountz, Warren Barker, Stephen Paulus, Carol Bayer Sager, Daphne Sanchez, Megan Lake, Herbert Semana, Andre Thomas, Adolphe Adam, Rose Cummings and Franz Gruber.
The concert will feature Shepherd’s wife, Virginia, on piano, as well as a performance by KCC’s hula group.
Admission is free and the acoustics in the church are great, Shepherd said.
Two days after the Christmas concert, KCC will kick off a weeklong art exhibit with a reception beginning at noon Tuesday in the One Stop Center.
The open-to-the-public exhibit will include a variety of works by students in the digital media department, including digital photography, painting and illustration, typography, digital prepress (publishing), Web design, 2D animation, digital video (advertisements and music videos) and traditional 2D design.
The exhibit runs Tuesday to Dec. 11 and will re-open at the beginning of the 2013 semester.
