Driving Ms. Mable among sweet, specialty drinks at Ho‘okipa Cafe
Along with the delicious collection of onolicious dishes, Ho‘okipa Cafe also offers specialty cocktails that are among the best on the island. What better time to enjoy these cocktails than during Ho‘okipa’s daily happy hour.
“We have happy hour everyday from 3 p.m. until closing,” said Derrick Nakamura, the Food and Beverage manager. “Not a lot of places on the island can say that.”
During happy hour, domestic beers are $3; imported beers are $4; and to shelf liquors range from $5 to $7.
Driving Ms. Mable
This week’s drink of the week is Puakea’s signature drink: Driving Ms. Mable, which is priced at $7. It was created in house on June 2012. This cocktail consists of Jeremiah Weed Sweet Tea vodka, natural peach liqueur, fresh brewed iced tea, lemonade and is garnished with a sprig of mint. This cocktail is served in a mason jar, which gives it a nostalgic throwback to a simpler time. This delicious drink is sweet and refreshing.
The sweetness of this drink eclipses the taste of its alcohol content, so be sure to be careful while you drink it — it goes down very easily. Driving Ms. Mable is not the only specialty drink offered at Ho‘okipa Cafe. Other drinks include the Ho‘okipa Cooler, a refreshing blend of red or white wine, lychee, ginger, fresh pineapple, lime and lime; Puakea Ginger Rita, a margarita shaken with Jose Cuervo Silver tequila and all natural ginger liqueur; Ho‘okipa Mele, Puakea’s version of a Bloody Mary that consists of Ketel One vodka and Asian spiced Blood Marry mix; On the Green, Smirnoff green apple vodka, Midori melon liqueur and a splash of cranberry juice; and Kellie’s “Pleas”ing Martini, a martini of Ketel one Citroen vodka, lychee and ginger liqueur, served very chilled on the rocks.
With a happy hour this long, accompanied with drinks that are very refreshing, I have feeling that more and more people will come out and try some of these onolicious cocktails.
