KAPA‘A — Deslyn Jaquias of Kaua‘i Girl, a contemporary fashion line, had much to celebrate Nov. 3 during the First Saturday event at the Sugar Mill Cupcakes.
“Today, we’re unveiling our new ‘Kaua‘i Boy’ line,” Jaquias said. “This new design also serves to launch our online shop.”
The Kaua‘i Boy, emblazoned with its “Livin’ Life 2 Da Fullest” message, is a collaboration with Chris Ladera of San Diego, said Jaquias, who co-owns Kaua‘i Girl with her son Kainoa Walscon.
“This will be available through the online shop through our Facebook page,” Jaquias said. “Once it gets going, we’ll think about getting it our to the shops where ‘Kaua‘i Girl’ is sold.”
Currently, Kaua‘i Girl items are being vended at several locations around the island, including the Crush Boutique located in the Kaua‘i Village, Island Love, Hanakai Kaua‘i, Kama‘aina Surf n Sport in Nawiliwili and caps are at the Sugar Mill Cupcakes in Kapa‘a.
Started in 2011, Jaquias said that she only started concentrating on really getting the “Kaua‘i Girl” line going this year.
“Westy Morita of Sugar Mill Cupcakes has been a really strong supporter of what we’ve been doing and in return, we have our “Kaua‘i Girl caps for sale, here,” Jaquias said. “Cupcakes and caps is not a bad combination.”
For the Saturday unveiling of the Kaua‘i Boy line, Morita afforded the Kaua‘i Girl ‘ohana some cupcakes to celebrate the occasion.
“But we’re not done, yet,” Jaquias said. “Tonight, we also celebrate our first girl designer, Layna Christian, who has her first design with us — a Kaua‘i Girl Hawaiian fish hook — which wraps around the body.”
Christian, a graduate of Kapa‘a High School where she was a basketball standout honed from her experience with the Piopio Bears of Hilo, was busy with her child’s first birthday, but made a brief appearance to inaugurate the new Kaua‘i Girl expansions.
