The Zonta Club of Hanalei Foundation presented LaVerne Bishop, director of Hale ‘Opio, with a contribution of $6,000 during the Zonta Club of Hanalei General meeting and Fellowship Saturday at member Patrice Pendarvis’ studio in Kilauea.
The funds are earmarked for the Hale ‘Opio Mother Daughter Circle program, a structured support group for mothers and daughters aged from 11 to 18 years old.
The purpose of the Mother Daughter Circle program is to promote a healthy and sustaining bond between mothers and daughters during the transitional years from girlhood to young womanhood.
During the program, four to eight pairs of mothers, or female caregivers, and daughters meet once a week for eight weeks with two facilitators.
The program focuses on development of empathy and understanding, healthy communications skills, stress reduction skills, clear and reasonable limit setting, expectations, boundaries, accountability and ownership practices, relationship success strategies and also explore meanings and messages about being female.

Hale ‘Opio is a nonprofit community-based organization started in 1975 to assist families and children on Kaua‘i with many in-community programs, which include emergency shelters, therapeutic foster homes, Teen Court, First jobs program, teen dating violence prevention and Street Smart education.

The Zonta Club of Hanalei meets on the third Tuesday of each month at the Westin Princeville Nanea Restaurant starting at 11:30 a.m. with the meetings open to the public.
