LIHU‘E — Mokihana Aquatics is hosting the 5th annual Lollipop Swim Meet and this year’s theme is “Splash Bash.” It takes place at the Kaua‘i High School pool Saturday starting at noon.
Registration starts at 11:15 a.m. with registration and warmups, said Mokihana Aquatics coach Orlando “O” Anaya.
“This meet celebrates the end of summer for all youngsters who took part in learn to swim programs,” Anaya said. “Following this meet, Mokihana Aquatics takes a two-week ‘vacation’ while work is done on the Kaua‘i High School pool.”
Age groups include 6 years and younger, 7-8 years, 9-10 years, 11-12 years, 13-18 years and 19 years and older.
Competition events for swimmers 8 years and younger will include 25 yards butterfly, 25 yards backstroke, 25 yards breaststroke and 25 yards freestyle.
Swimmers older than 8 years old will swim in the 50 yard butterfly, 50 yard backstroke, 50 yard breaststroke, 50 yard freestyle and 100 yard individual medley.
Other special events include a special “Parents Sprint” and a Biggest Splash and Belly Flop contest, which will be open to swimmers from any organized swim team.
There is no entry fee for swimmers to participate and free lollipops go to participants in each race.
Additionally, there will be free jumbo hot dogs, shave ice and popcorn.
