LIHU‘E — A senior tennis team from Kaua‘i is hoping to make a big splash at nationals this fall.
Insinc, a Kaua‘i Women’s 4.5 Senior Tennis team, won the United States Tennis Association Hawai‘i Pacific Sectional title on Maui in May. The win clinched a spot for Insinc to vie for the USTA National Title held in Indian Wells, Calif. Oct. 19-21.
The Kaua‘i team is comprised of Tammie Quinlan, Carol Surratt, Diane Treskon, Louta Zoller, Judy Mince, Sue Anderson and Valerie Rekward.
Surratt, the team captain, said winning the Maui sectionals was a tough task.
“We had many very competitive matches against Maui and O‘ahu team and we were amazed that we won,” Surrat said. “We look forward to representing Hawai‘i at the National playoffs.”
The team name, Insinc, was inspired by local tennis icon Sinclair Bill, who passed away late last year.
“We worked hard to emulate her spirit and energy during the tournament and would like to dedicate our win to her memory,” Surrat said. “Sinc was an amazing woman and she will not soon be forgotten.”
