Shane Matias
Shane Nelmida Matias of Lihu‘e died at Wilcox Memorial Hospital on May 13, 2012 at the age of 52. He was born in Lihu‘e on July 18, 1959 and was a former security guard with Garden Island Security and Freeman Guards, bus driver for Akita Enterprises and a cook at JJ’s Broiler.
Shane was a unique and special individual. He lived carefree and spirited life, embracing it with humor, compassion, and enthusiasm. His generosity, unconditional love, passion, and zest for life was and will continue to be an inspiration to all.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Enriquita Nelmida Fukushima; father, Roger Matias Sr.; maternal grandparents, Andres and Fortunata Nelmida; paternal grandparents, Guillermo and Emelia Matias.
He is survived by his loving wife, Stacie T. Okiura-Matias of Lihu‘e; in-laws, Toshio and Yoshiko Okiura of Lawa‘i; stepfather, Richard Fukushima of Kapa‘a; stepmother, Petronilla Remollino of Lihue; brothers, John W. (Doris) Matias of Mililani, HI; Max Roger (Dorene) Matias Jr. of Lihu‘e; sisters, Leah (David) Taylor of Neward, Calif., Christine Lani (Bryan) Hao of Vancouver, Wash., Marissa (Arden Daligdig) Matias of Willamina, Ore.; sister-in-law, Evie Horimoto of Mililani; numerous uncles, aunties, cousins, nieces and nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
A celebration of his life will be held on Tuesday, May 22, 2012 at Immaculate Conception Church with viewing from 8 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. and Mass celebrated at 10 a.m. Cremation to follow. A private inurnment will be held at a later date.
Kaua‘i Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home assisted the Okiura/Matias family with arrangements.
Constante Castillo
Constante Dela Cruz Castillo of ‘Ele‘ele, Kaua‘i died on May 15, 2012 at Kaua‘i Veterans Memorial Hospital at the age of 89. Born on October 3, 1922 in the Philippines, he was retired from McBryde Sugar Plantation.
He was preceded in death by parents, Lucas & Luisa Castillo; son, Elizer “Eli” Castillo.
He is survived by wife, Felipa “Ipa” Santos of ‘Ele‘ele; sisters, Magdalena Fermin of California, Dionicia Rarangol of the Philippines; daughter, Willy Castillo of Texas; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Friends may visit with the family on Friday, May 18, 2012. Visitation at 5:30 p.m. and Rosary at 7:00 p.m. at Borthwick Kaua‘i Mortuary Chapel, Koloa. Funeral services on Saturday, May 19, 2012 at Holy Cross Church, Kalaheo. Mass to be celebrated at 10 a.m. Cremation to follow.
