Tamaki Miyawaki and Midori Kitta have a dream assignment for the Hulalea magazine (eight pages of coverage?) from Japan, following Ka Lei Mokihana O Leina‘ala as the halau with kumu hula Leina‘ala Pavao journeys to the Merrie Monarch Festival.
They got to hear about the antics of Jade Waialeale who did the blessing (was nice to see Ano Higashi come all the way from the Eastside) at Salt Pond and after stopping to chat with a visitor who happened on the event, ended up keyless and without a cell phone.
Jayda Schaffer, Miss Kaua‘i Filipina 2010, will be doing the Miss Hula Aloha piece and when you hear kumu Leina‘ala talk about what is involved in the halau’s presentation, it just makes you proud to be a part of Kaua‘i.
Kaua‘i people can watch the performances live and the halau is No. 3 in the Miss Hula Aloha Thursday, and No. 5 on both Friday and Saturday (means you start watching at 6 p.m.).
Good luck, Ka Lei Mokihana O Leina‘ala! You make us proud!
