PO‘IPU — A 69-year-old Colorado man was in critical condition Sunday after nearly drowning Saturday in Po‘ipu, the county reported.

Kaua‘i County spokesperson Beth Tokioka said the man was found floating face-down in waters off Brennecke’s beach Saturday afternoon.

He was brought to shore by beach-goers.

A bystander and a lifeguard administered cardio pulmonary resuscitation until Kaua‘i Fire Department and medics arrived on scene around 2:10 p.m., she said.

The victim was transported to Wilcox Memorial Hospital and then transported to Queen’s Medical Center in Honolulu on Saturday night.
