Judge Laurel Loo said there are really no special Chinese New Year celebrations on Kaua‘i, except maybe Sharon Sahara is going to get some people together for lunch. Glenna Ueunten said the citrus (significant Chinese New Year food) is going off, although the tangerines all sold for the Western New Year which coincides with Oshogatsu, or the Japanese New Year.
They were at the Friday sunshine market, and Glenna said her citrus even has leaves. Today she’s at the Koloa sunshine market at noon.
Daniel Soto said since it’s Monday, he’ll be at the Monday Market behind Kmart. He was so busy Friday he couldn’t even drink water.
Hats off to Eric Knutzen and Helen Cox on the successful launch of Ho‘ouluwehi, Thursday night. Chef Martina Hildorfer and her culinary arts crew had a farm-to-table spread laid out. Now, are they doing something for Chinese New Year? Check out www.kauai.hawaii.edu for the week’s offering (Chinese on almost every day of the week), and while there, don’t forget the ACF Breakfast tickets for Feb. 19.
Kung Hee Fat Choi, Kaua‘i! Welcome to the Year of the Dragon!
