LIHU‘E — Basketball fans can get a taste of the upcoming Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation season tonight when two sets of games will be played.
Coach Philip Baclayon of the Kapa‘a High School program said the Warrior Junior Varsity will be hosting two games at the Bernice Hundley Gym starting at 5:30 p.m.
The Waimea JV girls will be tipping off against the Warrior JV girls followed by the Waimea JV boys tipping off against Kapa‘a’s JV boys starting at 7:30 p.m.
Kaua‘i High School will be hosting its annual Red-and-White games, tonight at the Kaua‘i High School gym with the varsity teams taking the floor starting at 5 p.m., said Clarence Sales.
The teams will be involved in inter-squad games and a 3-point shoot out.
Sales said both the varsity girls and the varsity boys have already played in a tournament this year.
Sandi Nadatani, coach of the Kaua‘i girls varsity squad, finished a tournament on Maui with a strong 2-1 showing.
The Kaua‘i girls open its season on Dec. 13, traveling to Waimea High School with the Junior Varsity tipping off at 5:30 p.m. followed by the varsity game starting about 20 minutes following the completion of the JV match.
On that same date, Kapa‘a’s varsity girls will travel to Island School for a single game starting at 7 p.m.
Ipo Yoshioka is at the helm of the Kaua‘i boys team and finished three games during the Kapa‘a High School tournament over the weekend.
Both the JV and varsity boys will travel to O‘ahu next week for games against Kalaheo High School, St. Louis, Castle and Roosevelt to wrap up its preseason.
The Kaua‘i boys travel to Waimea for its KIF season opener, Jan. 4, 2012 with the JV game tipping off at 5:30 p.m. followed by the varsity match starting 20 minutes following the completion of the JV game.
Kapa‘a’s JV will be at Island School for a single exhibition game starting at 5:30 p.m. that same date.
Admission to the Red-and-White game is $5 and there will be a food booth available with door prizes given away.
