Juliana Yago
Juliana G. Yago of Puhi passed away on Nov. 15, 2011 at Garden Isle Healthcare Center at the age of 71. Born on July 8, 1940 in the Philippines, she was a retired miller for The Garden Island newspaper.
She is survived by her husband, Rodolfo “Rudy” Yago; two daughters, Marilou (William) Combs and Marilyn (Manny) Garcia; hanai daughter, Sonia (Virgilio) Uy of Honolulu; sister, Clarita (Pancho) Tabuyo of Philippines; 4 grandchildren, Ethan, Jade, Allison and Lauren and numerous nieces and nephews in the Philippines.
Friends may visit with the family on Saturday, Dec. 3, at Immaculate Conception Church from 8 a.m. to 9:45 a.m., mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial to follow at Lihu‘e Cemetery.
Arrangements were handled by Borthwick Kaua‘i Mortuary.
Eric Fujiwara
Eric “Garfield” Fujiwara of Kalaheo died Nov. 16, 2011 at Kaua‘i Veterans Memorial Hospital at the age of 54. Born on Sept. 7, 1957, in Honolulu, he was a mechanic technician with the Hawai‘i Army National Guard.
He is survived by his wife, Donna Fujiwara; son, Daniel Fujiwara of Hanapepe; daughter, Michelle (Michael) Hinazumi of Lihu‘e; two grandchildren, Mari and Micha Hinazumi; parents, George and Yaeko Fujiwara of Hilo; brothers, Duane (Phyllis) Fujiwara of Aiea and Myles (Yonghui) Fujiwara also of Aiea and sister, Lorene (Gerrit) Takasaki of Hakalau.
Friends may visit with the family at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 3, 2011 at the Kaua‘i Veterans Cemetery Pavilion; service at 11 a.m. Casual attire is suggested.

Emery Nester
Dr. Emery Nester passed away peacefully on Nov. 14, 2011, after a brief illness. He was a long time resident of Kaua‘i and O‘ahu. Born on January 16, 1925, in New Plymouth, Idaho, to Emory and Gladys Nester, he was the founder and author of Lifestyle Discipleship and author of a book on depression. He was also a practicing psychologist both in the private sector and for school districts in Kapa‘a and on O‘ahu.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ann; daughter, Suzanne Ritchey and brother, Billy Nester.
He is survived by son, Tim (Carol) Nester of Kapa‘a; grandchildren, Timmy and Sara Nester of Kapa‘a and Kara and Royce Hammer of Reno, Nev.; sister, Betty (Bob) Gillikin of San Carlos, Calif.; brother, Bob (Peggy) Nestor of Greer, S.C.; son-in-law, Lloyd Ritchey of Reno, Nev. and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be held in Kapa‘a at Calvary Chapel on Saturday, Dec. 10, at 11 a.m.
Arthur Budd
Arthur Richard Budd of Kapa‘a died Nov. 17, 2011, at home at age 90. He was born in Salt Lake City, Utah, on Jan. 26, 1921.
After serving in WWII as a naval aviator in the Pacific theatre, earning the Air Medal for meritorious service, he finished his undergraduate degree at the University of Utah and his doctor of dental surgery at USC. He practiced dentistry in California for 50 years, retiring at the age of 80 to Kaua‘i. He was a lifelong student of history, poetry, nature, aviation, science, gardening and poker. Arthur was also a devoted fan of University of Utah and USC football.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Claire; son, Arthur Richard Budd Jr.; sister, Annie Laurie Lloyd; and brother, Maurice Budd.
He is survived by children, Nancy (Roy Yamakawa) Budd, Gary (Dana Paniagua) Budd, Dianne (Andrew Wolff) Budd, Jordan (Paris Awalt) Budd, and Julie Kozak; grandchildren, Eric Budd, Claire Wolff, Lauren Calhoun, Ian Wolff, Susannah Budd and Rachel Budd; two great-grandchildren; and sisters, Beverly Todd and Shirley Pusey.
Carnation Awa
Carnation Irene Kaanoi (Lima) Awa of Kane‘ohe, Hawai‘i died peacefully on Nov. 6, 2011, in Las Vegas, Nev., at age 55. Born Oct. 19, 1956, in Honolulu, she was a graduate of Castle High School where she was a member of “The Hall of Fame” varsity volleyball team.
She is survived by her son, Shannon; daughters, Chiffon and Kamaile Awa; brothers, Joe and Alex Lima; sisters, Alexis (Honi) Cobb-Adams of Kaliua-Kona, Blossom (Biggie) Aweau, Peaches (Joseph) Lonetti of Las Vegas, Liz (Mike) Laureta of Kaua‘i; 12 grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, family and friends.
A celebration of life will be held at noon, Dec. 3, at Ulu Mau Pavilion; scattering of ashes to follow at He‘eia Kea Pier, Kane‘ohe.
Kameichi Sakamoto
Kameichi Sakamoto of Lihu‘e died at home on Nov. 24, 2011, at age 85. Born in Kapa‘a on Aug. 8, 1926, he retired from the Department of Education as an agriculture teacher at Kaua‘i High School.
He is survived by his wife, Mae Sakamoto; two daughters, Stacy (Tommy) Matsuzawa of Washington, Jan Sakamoto of Colorado; three grandchildren, Michelle Matsuzawa, Joe Matsuzawa, Jade Sakamoto; sister, Matsuko Sakamoto of Kaua‘i; brother, Haruichi Sakamoto of Washington; numerous nieces and nephews.
A celebration of his life will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 7, at The Kapa‘a Hongwanji Mission with visitation from 9 a.m. and services celebrated at 10 a.m.
Kaua‘i Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home assisted the Sakamoto family with arrangements.
Gavino Cabanatan
Gavino Dela Cruz Cabanatan of Puhi died Nov. 18, 2011, at Garden Isle Healthcare at age 94. Born Dec. 16, 1916, in the Philippines, he was a retired laborer with Kaua‘i Nursery and Landscaping.
He is survived by his wife, Juliet Cabanatan; five daughters, Esmenia (Loreto) Diculen, Julie Sensano, Concepcion (Manuel) Ababa Jr., Adelina (Perlie) Nicolas and Julie Anne Cabanatan; three sons, Florendo Cabanatan, Francisco (Teresita) Cabanatan and Alberto (Diodisa) Cabanatan; 32 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Friends may visit with the family on Saturday, Dec. 10, at Borthwick Mortuary Chapel in Koloa from 8 to 9:45 a.m. Services will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial to follow at Kaua‘i Veterans Cemetery in Hanapepe.

Ronald Finney
Ronald “Inat” Terrence Finney of Kapa‘a died Nov. 19, 2011, at age 33. Born in Long Branch, N.J., on Dec. 29, 1977, he was a chef.
He is survived by his wife, Maricris (Mary) Finney of Kapa‘a; son, Dhymiere Llego-Finney of Kapa‘a; daughter, Janessa Llego-Finney of Kapa‘a; parents, Debra Finney and Eugene Robinson of Virginia; brothers, Kevin Finney of Virginia and Devon Finney of Hawai‘i; sisters, Nateeya Finney of Viginia and Rizalyn (Randy) Ogata of Kaua‘i; numerous nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, Dec. 3, at Lihu‘e United Church. Visitation will be at 10 a.m. with services to follow at 11 a.m.

Donald Ditch
Donald Uldric Ditch died at his home on Oct. 22, 2011, in San Antonio, Texas. Born Nov. 21, 1949, in Honolulu, he was a self-employed landscaper, he worked for the UPS Postal Service and was a Navy veteran.
He grew up on Kaua‘i and graduated from Kaua‘i High School, later attending the University of Hawai‘i. He was a devoted father and grandfather. Active in sports, he maintained passionate interests in football and basketball and was a coach and referee. His favorite hobbies were fishing and hiking.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Ramona Akiyama, and step-father, Minato “Peanut” Akiyama.
He is survived by sons, Uldrich (Jessica) Ditch, Warren Stewart Ditch; daughter, Angela Carerra; grandson, Michael (Mikey) Carrera; sisters, Camellia (Kent) Crosby and Cherisse (Eugene) Relacion; brothers, Warren (Connie) Ditch, Jr. and Stewart (Faye) Ditch; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
Scattering of his ashes will be held at a later date on Kaua‘i.

Clara Yamate
Clara Michiko Yamate of Princeville died Oct. 10, 2011, in Honolulu at age 88. Born in Hawai‘i, she retired as a Mahelona employee and proprietor of Hobby Shop.
She is survived by her husband, Theodore “Ted” Yamate; son, Gregg Yamate; brothers, Harold, Herbert and Richard Shigemoto; two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Services will be held at 11 a.m., Dec. 6, at Kapa‘a United Church of Christ.
Casual attire is suggested. No flowers.
