“Do not be wise in your own eyes.” — Proverbs 3:7
Wisdom, it’s a beautiful thing and we all want to be known as wise, after all no one wants to be known as a fool. Yes, most all of us would like to be looked at as someone who is wise and someone who others can turn to in order to seek advice and instruction. Knowledge on the other hand is different. Knowledge is information. A person can have a great deal of information and yet have no wisdom. Sometimes we confuse one with the other and we think ourselves wise, when in reality we only have information, and many times limited information. It’s the difference between the person reading the book and the person writing the book. Information is easy to get, wisdom comes from God and sometime in the fields of life. If knowledge is information, then wisdom would be knowing what do to with and how to apply that information correctly. A wise man does not think himself wise, but a fool boasts of his wisdom. Sometimes we call them “know it alls” because they are sure they know everything, but someone who knows everything, can’t be taught anything. And that is not wise, because the minute we can no longer be taught, we are no longer wise. True wisdom comes from God the Creator of all things and the only true Wise Man. It is always better if people call you wise than you call or think yourself wise. That’s humility and a true sign of a wise person. We are told in God’s Word that if we lack wisdom, we should ask and He will give it to us. The fountains of wisdom start there, let us drink deeply. — Pastor Tom
