PO‘IPU — Kaua‘i United Way Executive Director Scott Giarman and Lynnette Medrano-Stine, the KUW Campaign Director and Community Services Liaison, accepted a check for more than $3,000 from the staff of Merriman’s at The Shops at Kukui‘ula, Thursday.
The funds represent proceeds of the restaurant’s second anniversary dinner in which proceeds were committed to the Kaua‘i United Way and its umbrella of 28 social service agencies.
“We’re very grateful to Peter Merriman for going the extra mile to do this,” Giarman said. “To me, Peter’s generosity with our whole community via Kaua‘i United Way is an outgrowth of his philosophy of using 90 percent local ingredients. We are all interdependent on our island — the farmers, the restaurant workers and the customers — all of us. We are linked and cannot be unlinked. We can choose to make our community as a whole better, or we can ignore it. Peter chooses to work together to make life for us all better.”
Funds raised by Merriman’s during its second anniversary stays on Kaua‘i, said Medrano-Stine. Businesses wishing to join with Merriman’s in benefitting the community and feeling good about doing can call the Kaua‘i United Way at 245-2043.
Kaua‘i United Way is Kaua‘i’s umbrella charitable organization supporting 28 vital Participating Agencies which collectively make life better for all of Kaua‘i.
