Leila Hurst charges into quarterfinals at Arnette Women’s World Juniors

Leila Hurst, a Kaua‘i girl and the only surfer from Hawai‘i, advanced into the quarterfinals at the Arnette Women’s World Junior in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Wednesday.

Hurst, going up against Faye Zoetmulder and Carol Fernandez of Brazil opened the action in Heat 1 as the Arnette Association of Surfing Professionals World Pro Junior presented by Quiksilver opened in one-to three-foot waves at Arpoador.

Hurst finished first in that opening round to advance directly into Round 3 where she defeated Brazilian surfer Gabriela Leite to move into the quarterfinals.

The Arnette ASP Women’s World Junior Championships is the third stop of three on the ASP Women’s World Junior Tour and features the world’s top 18 junior surfers.
