Cereal Fernandez
Cereal Fernandez of Koloa died at Wilcox Memorial Hospital on Sept. 29, 2011, at age 83. Born in Koloa on Feb. 28, 1928, he served in the U.S. Navy during WWII and retired as a harvesting supervisor with McBryde Sugar Company.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Alejandro “Andy” Fernandez, and sister, Josephine Fernandez.
He is survived by his wife, Catherine Fernandez of Koloa; sons, Edward “Eddie Boy” (Sheila) Fernandez of Mililani and Bernal (Dolores) Fernandez of Lawa‘i; daughters, Sherleen “Tita” Fernandez of Koloa, Suzette “Baba” (Greg) Kenney of Kekaha and Zaneeta (Bill) Quinn of Mililani; brother, Regalardo “Baco” Fernandez of Puhi; sisters, Rose Pantohan of Hanapepe and Remy Bolster of Kailua, O‘ahu; 10 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A celebration of his life will be held on Thursday, Oct. 6, at St. Raphael’s Church with viewing at 9 a.m. and Mass celebrated at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at Kaua‘i Veterans Cemetery.
Kaua‘i Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home assisted the Fernandez family with arrangements.
Kent Gibboney
Kent “Unkl Ken” Douglas Gibboney of Kapa‘a died at home on Sept. 26, 2011, at age 65. Born in Troy, Ohio, on Nov. 13, 1945, he retired as a drywall taper.
He is survived by his wife, Sylvia Gibboney; daughters, Nichelle Gibboney and Kymberley Gibboney; son, Elijah Gibboney; stepson, Tim Cowan; stepdaughters, Andrea Cowan, Kimberly Lum and Melanie Lum; brothers, Patrick Gibboney, Daniel Gibboney and Chris Gibboney; mother-in-law, Elsie Goo; numerous grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.
A celebration of his life will be held on Thursday, Oct. 6, at the War Memorial Convention Hall with visitation at 3 p.m. and services celebrated at 5 p.m. The family graciously declines flowers.

Gary Aoki
Gary Francis Aoki died peacefully at Wilcox Memorial Hospital on Sept. 30, 2011, at age 66 after an eight-year battle with Hodgkin’s disease. Born in Honolulu on March 16, 1945, he worked for the Canadian airline Wardair and in the hospitality industry with Starwood Hotels & Resorts where he retired from the Sheraton Po‘ipu.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Wilfred and Fumiko Aoki, and brother, Lowell Aoki.
He is survived by his wife, Kymry; stepsons, Ashton and Ryan Perez; daughters, Danielle (Ian) Lin of Des Moines, Iowa, Chelsea (Scott) Hermodson of Blaine, Minn.; 7 grandkids, sister, Janice Sawada, brother, Earl (Susan) Aoki, many nieces and nephews, and his beloved dog, Taffy.

Brian Horikami
Brian Kiyoshi Horikami of Lihu‘e died Sept. 25, 2011, at age 57. Born Oct. 27, 1953, in Lahaina, Maui, he was an executive with Servco Hawai‘i.
He is survived by his companion, Paula Sokei; daughter, Carrie Horikami; mother, Yasumi Horikami; brother, Clyde Horikami; and sisters, Gail Mau and Edean Chu.
Friends may visit with the family from 1 to 2 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 8, at the Garden Island Mortuary chapel; service at 2 p.m. Casual attire is suggested. No flowers and no koden please.
Arrangements are being handled by Garden Island Mortuary.
Dawn Kapu
Dawn M. Kapu of Anahola died Sept. 20, 2011, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at age 57. Born April 13, 1954, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital, she was a receptionist for a time share.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Lorraine Kapu Sr.
She is survived by her two brothers, James K. Kapu Jr. and Dean (Wendy) Kapu; numerous nieces, nephews, aunties, uncles and cousins.
Friends may visit with the family on Saturday, Oct. 8, at Kapa‘a Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints at 9 a.m.; a celebration of her life will be at 10 a.m.

Frederick Hollinger Jr.
Frederick “Fred” Hollinger Jr. of Honolulu died Sept. 19, 2011, at Straub Clinic and Hospital at age 53. Born Jan. 16, 1958, in Honolulu, he was a golf course grounds keeper at the Ala Wai Golf Course.
He is survived by his brothers, Stuart F. Hollinger and Porter T. Hollinger; nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at a later date.

Wendall Dias
Wendall John Dias of Hanapepe died Sept. 24, 2011, at Kaua‘i Veterans Memorial Hospital at age 54. Born April 25, 1957, in Lihu‘e, he was a machine operator for Kukuiolono Golf Course.
He was preceded in death by his father, David Dias Sr.; brothers, Nolan and Robin Dias; and sons, Malani-Kai and Tysen Dias.
He is survived by his mother, Dolores Dias; son, Jonah Dias; daughter, Rachel Dias; brothers, David Dias and Sam Dias; caregiver, Kathy Dias; numerous nieces and nephews.
A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, Oct. 8, at Kukuiolono Golf Course at 10 a.m.

Clarence Curran
C.P. “Duke” Curran of Kapa‘a died Sept. 30, 2011, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at age 90. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., on April 5, 1921, he was a U.S. Army, ret., 165 INF “The Fighting 69th.”
He is survived by his wife, Veronica Curran; daughters, Lois Handwerker of New York, Geraldine (Leonard) Marro of New York and Clare Gude of New York; 14 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at St. Catherine’s Catholic Church in Kapa‘a on Tuesday, Oct. 11. Visitation will be at 9 a.m. with service at 10 a.m. Burial will be held at a later date in New York.
