The Golf Course Superintendents Association of America has awarded 20, $1,500 college scholarships as part of its Legacy Awards program, according to a news release.
Lyle Nemeth of Lihu‘e was one of the recipients of the scholarship. Nemeth is an incoming freshman at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. His father, Victor Nemeth, is a GCSAA Class A superintendent at Kiahuna Golf Club in Koloa.
The awards are based on academic achievement, community involvement, extracurricular activities and leadership skills, according to the release. Applicants must be enrolled or accepted full-time at an accredited college.
“The Legacy Awards have always been a way for us to give back to the golf industry,” said Stephanie Schwenke, golf marketing manager for Syngenta, in a press release. “These scholarships provide opportunity for future leaders to gain the education and experiences that will contribute to their future success.”
