Floro Villabrille
Floro Michael Villabrille Jr. of Kapa‘a died on May 1, 2011 at The Queen’s Medial Center at age 56. Born on O‘ahu on March 17, 1955, he served in the U.S. Army as a combat veteran for four years and retired as a County of Kaua‘i heavy equipment operator and commercial fisherman.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Floro and Trini Villabrille Sr.; Alfred and Mildred Pogtis and Daniel Pogtis.
He is survived by his wife, Susan Miyashiro Villabrille; children, Michael Villabrille, Michelle (Derek) Ebesu Jr. of Washington, Sheri (Shane) Villabrille-Matsumura, Sheena (Aaron) Villabrille-Coyaso of Kapa‘a; brothers, Kenneth (Karen) Villabrille of Kapa‘a, and Ralph “Sonny” (Teri) Villabrille, Alfred Pogtis and family, Don Pogtis and family, Joann Eguchi and family, Rosa Ramones and family; mother-in-law, Irene Kaui Miyashiro; brothers-in-law, Clayton (Rachell) Miyashiro, Tyrus (Alicia) Miyashiro, Randal (Hilda) Miyashiro; sisters-in-law, Irene Miyashiro, Lynn (Nelson) Salvador, Iris (Sam) Thronas, Diane (John) Mundon of Kapa‘a; numerous nieces and nephews; grandchildren, Kailani, Isaiah, Serena and Maddie.
Friends may visit with the family on Saturday, June 11, at St. Catherine’s Parish Church in Kapa‘a from 8 to 9 a.m. and service to follow.
Casual attire is suggested.
Henry Ferreira
Henry Pestana Ferreira of Lihu‘e died on May 27, 2011, at home at age 91. Born on Kaua‘i on Jan. 15, 1920, he retired as a tour bus driver with Grey Line Tours.
He was preceded in death by parents, Antone and Mary Ferreira; and brother, Albert Ferreira.
He is survived by his wife, Violet Ferreira; daughters, Mary Pat (Richard) Moniz of O‘ahu, Yvonne Ferreira-Martin of Texas, Rose Harris of Lihu‘e; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A celebration of life will be held on Tuesday, June 7, at Immaculate Conception Church with viewing from 8 a.m. and Mass celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at Kaua‘i Veterans Cemetery.
Kaua‘i Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home assisted the Ferreira family with arrangements.
Harley Soto
Harley Jayde Ku‘upu‘iwaihilina‘iikahaku Naemi Soto died May 19, 2011. He was born March 31, 2011, at Sharp Medical Center for Women and Children in San Diego, Calif.
She is survived by her father, Christopher Soto; mother, Lynne Eliazar; sister, Shelyn; brothers, Caden and Hunter Jay; paternal grandparents, Stafford and Heide Soto; maternal grandparents, Stephanie and Tyron Nojima and Albert and Lucy Eliazar; paternal great-grandmothers, J. Hazel Soto and Yoneko Honjo; maternal great-grandfather, Ilpidio Qulit; numerous aunties, uncles and cousins.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 11, at Kalaheo Missionary Church. Visitation is from 5 to 6 p.m. with the service to follow.
Epitacio Ato Jr.
Epitacio “Jr.” “Abby” Adriatico Ato Jr. of Kapa‘a died on June 1, 2011, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at age 49. Born in Lihu‘e on Dec. 10, 1961, he was a handyman.
He is survived by his mother, Magdalena Ato; sisters, Pacita Neria of Las Vegas; Carmen (Gary) Saiki, Minda (Greg) Hada, Ester (Val) Reyna, Jovita (Mario) Lagoc; brothers, Ernest Ato of Honolulu, Chris (Jessel) Ato; numerous aunties, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Private services will be held.
Kaua‘i Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home assisted the Ato family with arrangements.
Joan Looney
Joan Maureen Bingham Looney of Lihu‘e died May 10, 2011, at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, Mass. at age 65, following a two-year battle with lung cancer. She had worked for a number of years at Harvard University in Cambridge, Mass. and recently at Na Hoku in Po‘ipu Shopping Village.
She is survived by her husband, Charles L. Looney of Lihu‘e; children, Sarah of Guerneville, Calif. and son, Sean of Topsfield, Mass. and their children; siblings, G. Shephard Bingham of Topsfield, Mass., Laurie Bingham of Laconia, N.H. and Cathy Sadler of Concord, Calif.
Memorial services were held on May 16 in Topsfield, Mass. in an historical setting maintained by Topsfield Historical Society.
Francisca Trinidad
Francisca Rafanan Trinidad of Hanama‘ulu died June 1, 2011, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at age 75. Born in the Philippines on June 4, 1935, she retired as a cafeteria cashier for Wilcox Memorial Hospital.
She is survived by her husband, Santos Trinidad; four sons, Flor (Marlyn) Trinidad, Mario Trinidad and family, Andy Trinidad, Sam (Lilibeth) Trinidad; daughter, Delia (Edwin) Navarro; 16 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; brother, Jesus Rafanan; and sister, Cianing Ramilo.
Friends may visit with the family from 8 to 9:45 a.m. on Saturday, June 18, at Immaculate Conception Church where Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial to follow at Kalapaki Bay Memorial Park.
Arrangements are being handled by Borthwick Kaua‘i Mortuary.
