Happy Camper for Saturday, June 4, 2011

Kai Vanderlip and Tiny Bear were visiting the Hanapepe Veterans Cemetery Monday.

Kai’s mom, Lani Vanderlip, said she’s doing a second book on Tiny Bear, who like Flat Stanley, makes visits to different parts of the world. She said Tiny Bear has a counterpart, Buster the dog, who is currently in Spain.

Kai’s grandma, Lynn Harmer, is one of the Tashiro girls from Kalaheo who were visiting the graves of Judge Benjamin and Gladys Tashiro, where Betty Ihara had one of her ti leaf angels decked out in special patriotic ribbons.

Hats off to Bill Honjiyo and the Kaua‘i Veterans Council for hosting a great Memorial Day service!

Congratulations to Mark Domingcil and the PONY Committee on hosting a great playoff series. Congratulations to Lihu‘e coach Stanton Yoshimori and his crew on advancing to the states. Next week, we start the Bronco All-Stars playoffs Tuesday in Lihu‘e.

OK, so if there’s time in the schedule, Mark Ozaki said K-PAL flag football starts today. One of the key games features teams by coach Darryl Date taking on coach David Bukoski (remember those great soccer games with the two coaches?).
